Overview
This course is designed to engage students in their society. We'll look at how people have engaged in society in the past and how we can engage in meaningful change right now. Additionally, we'll pair up with Mr. Amiel's Biology 11 class and look at local bigger picture issues via the marine environment! It promises to be an excellent adventure!
Units of Study
Why combine Curricular areas?
“Integrated teaching and problem-based learning (PBL) are powerful educational strategies. Difficulties arise, however, in their application in the later years… a trans-disciplinary approach to integration, which incorporates the principles of PBL offers advantages to both teachers and students. It recognizes that attachments to individual disciplines can offer rich learning opportunities and that such attachments can play a role in integrated, as well as in a traditional, curriculum.” (Harden et al, 1998)
Teaching Approach
Assessment:
While we will engage in a number of formative activities, simulations and field trips, we will develop a foundation of the course through a variety of assessments.
